AMBASSADOR KHOJESTA FANA EBRAHIMKHEL ACTIVELY PARTICIPATED IN THE OFFICIAL HANDOVER CEREMONY OF THE G-77 CHAIRMANSHIP OF THE VIENNA CHAPTER
Ambassador Khojesta Fana Ebrahimkhel actively participated in the Official Handover Ceremony of the G77 Chairmanship of the Vienna Chapter, on the 12th of March, in Vienna.
Ambassador Ebrahimkhel expressed her appreciation for the support the outgoing Chairperson extended to Afghanistan during his tenure. She then proceeded to duly congratulate the newly appointed co-chairs. The Ambassador emphasized the great importance of Afghanistan, as one of the founding members of the G-77, places on the group’s efforts in the areas of development policies and multilateralism.
Ambassador Ebramikhel called for a strengthening of cooperation between the Member states. In this regard, she enumerated the areas currently at the forefront of Aghanistan’s agenda, which include the combating of the World Drug Problem, the elimination of poverty and the promotion of women’s rights. The Ambassador, moreover, expressed her gratitude to all staff members of the Vienna-based organizations who have been tirelessly working towards the development and implementation of programs for all Afghan stakeholders.
Afghanistan remains committed to the work of the G77 and extends the full cooperation of its Vienna delegation to the newly-appointed Co-chairs.
AMBASSADOR KHOJESTA FANA EBRAHIMKHEL ATTENDED THE LAUNCHING EVENT OF THE IAEA MARIE SKLODOWSKA CURIE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME
Ambassador Khojesta Fana Ebrahimkhel attended the launching event of the IAEA Marie Sklodowska Curie Fellowship Programme, organized under the auspices of Director General H.E. Mr. Rafael Mariano Grossi, on the 9th of March in Vienna. The launching event attracted two renowned nuclear physicists, namely Marie-Curie’s grand-daughter, Hélène Langevin-Joliot, and Latin American winner of the L’Oreal-UNESCO Award for Women in Science Karen Hallberg.
Having been named after Marie Sklodowska-Curie, twice Nobel Prize Winner, the fellowship Program aims to serve as a beacon of inspiration and encouragement for future female STEM leaders. Fellowships will be awarded annually and will reach exactly 100 female students per year. Ambassador Ebrahimkhel views this initiative as paramount to encouraging Afghan women to pursue a professional career in nuclear science and technology.
Afghanistan reiterates its gratitude for the continuous support of the IAEA to Afghanistan, particularly concerning IAEA-organized educational and training programs for Afghan stakeholders and reaffirms its commitment to gender equality and women empowerment. We remain optimistic about the future of Afghan women and hopeful that through continuous cooperation with the IAEA, significant progress will be made with regards to gender parity in the field of nuclear security.
THE GOVERNMENT OF AFGHANISTAN AND THE AFGHAN OPIATE TRADE PROJECT OF UNODC RESEARCH AND TREND ANALYSIS BRANCH ORGANIZED A SIDE EVENT UNDER THE 63RD SESSION OF THE CND
The Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, in conjunction with the UNODC Research and Trend Analysis Branch organized a side event in the margins of the 63rd session of the CND, on the 5th of March in Vienna. The event took the form of an insightful presentation of the key findings within a UNODC report titled “Voices of the Quchaqbar: Understanding Opiate Trafficking in Afghanistan from the Perspective of Drug Traffickers”.
In his opening speech, Deputy Minister Aurtuq expressed his appreciation for the unique structure of the UNODC Report. The Deputy Minister, moreover, emphasized his hope that the Report will serve to open up future avenues of collaboration between the UNODC and the Afghan counter-narcotics police.
The Deputy Vice Minister on Counter Narcotics of Afghanistan, Mr. Mohammad Fazel Wasit was also a panelist in the side event. He presented to the attendees the achievements of Afghanistan’s Counter-Narcotics Police in the last decade, which are significant and numerous. During his presentation, Mr. Wasit specifically highlighted the growing numbers of operations, seizures and the dismantling of labs the Afghanistan Counter Narcotics Police has successfully carried out from 2009 until 2019. Mr. Osman remains hopeful that the current achievements of the Counter Narcotics Police Force will be amplified in the years to come.
