My fellow Afghans,
My dear Austrian friends,
Welcome and thank you very much for visiting our website!
It is a great pleasure and distinct honor for me to represent Afghanistan in Vienna, both vis-à-vis the Republic of Austria and at the Vienna-based organizations.
During my tenure as Ambassador of Afghanistan in Vienna, I will have the privilege to be responsible for serving and protecting the Afghan citizens in Austria and for promoting the interests of Afghanistan.
Together with my able team here at the Embassy and Permanent Mission, I will spare no effort to make substantial contributions to the well-being of the Afghan people and to the further stabilization, reconstruction and democratization of our beloved Afghanistan.
Fostering our excellent relations with the beautiful host country Austria is another priority: our mutual relationship has deep roots in history, and is founded on a solid platform and guided by the same ideals of democracy, pluralism, human rights, and the rule of law.
Promoting the multilateral agenda with the Vienna-based organizations including CTBTO, IACA, IAEA, ICMPD, INCB, UNIDO, UNOV/UNODC, as well as the OSCE, the world’s largest regional organization, is also on top of my agenda.
It will be an essential component of my work to promote investment in Afghanistan and help to facilitate trade and commerce – there are indeed vast untapped opportunities for investment and rebuilding in Afghanistan.
Equally important, I shall encourage provision of scholarships and fellowship programmes for Afghan students in Austria, while strengthening cultural exchange and civil society cooperation.
Owing to both the hard work and determination of the Afghan people and the long-standing support from our international partners, including Austria, Afghanistan managed to accomplish significant progress on her way to full recovery, since 2001, in all areas of our lives, including reconstruction and infrastructure; institution-building, governance and judiciary; equal rights for women and men – as stipulated in our 2004 Constitution; free media; education for girls and boys; and the role of civil society, to name but a few.
Under the leadership of President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, a thriving Afghanistan shall become once again a junction for trade and exchange, at the Heart of Asia and along the Eurasian Land Bridge.
Afghanistan is a young democracy and boasts a young demography, too: 75% of our population of 32 million is under the age of 35 and ready to further develop the country.
In our work with the United Nations and other international and regional organizations based in Austria, we will – inter alia – advocate for programmes and projects for Afghan stakeholders to be designed to make a meaningful difference in the country.
Let me also encourage all Afghans in Austria to contribute to the rebuilding of their homeland by providing expertise, investments, professional skills and ideas. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you are interested in working or investing in Afghanistan.
As the first female Ambassador of Afghanistan in Vienna, let me emphasize the important role of women in all societies, and in particular in post-conflict settings: Since 2001, Afghan women have made great strides in retaking their active roles across all spheres of society. Also, I have female Afghan colleagues serving as Members of Parliament, Ministers, Ambassadors, as well as high-ranking officials and officers in the judiciary and the security forces. Article 22 of the Afghan Constitution stipulates: “Any kind of discrimination and distinction between citizens of Afghanistan shall be forbidden. The citizens of Afghanistan, men and women, have equal rights and duties before the law.” I commend all women who already took the lead and inspire others to follow.
In closing, let me please refer you to our website’s section that provides historical context concerning the excellent partnership between Austria and Afghanistan.
